Low Oil, Change Oil Soon or Maintenance Required - Most cars after 1994 will have one or the other of these lights. The lights are programmed to come on at prescribed mileage intervals telling you of recommended services, typically at oil change intervals and 30k, 60k and 90k mileage levels (see your owners manual for your manufacturers levels). Maintenance Required lights are strictly a notification that you are due for a particular service and do not mean that any mechanical problem exists. They will require re-setting after service is completed and you can usually find out how to reset them from your owner’s manual. A low oil light such as the one pictured usually represents a low oil condition or lack of oil pressure and the vehicle should be stopped at the earliest, safest spot. Check your oil level with the engine off. Refill if low and inspect for any major oil leaks. If the oil light continues to stay on when the oil level is full, there may be a major component failure internally in the engine and it should be inspected immediately with the car being towed in.
